So today was also unexpected. I got up super early to be there, ready by 7, but when we left at 8 with 1/2 the team still at home we found out that the place didn't have anyone there yet! :) They called last night asking us to come early and then didn't come themselves. There had been an unexpected death in the congregation and so we went there and then back to camp and people started coming by then. Already, i only had to teach fire safety! My two helpers from yesterday had the rest down! :) And since patients because of the heat started to leave during the training I started to see patients. First with sister mary and then with my usual hostess. I drew an asthma diagram and used it multiple times today. Lot's of repeat things but interestingly, real problems and not the gerd I see so much of usually - a lady with seizures, a boy with microcephaly, serious asthma, htn etc. The last patient of the day came super late and she had nothing i could treat - arthritis (really bad) and cataracts. So my translator said the operation is too much so we should pray and so we did and much to everyone's surprise or at least mine, she was healed right infront of everyone, with everyone watching! So praise God! probably saw 30-40 patients today, but did full education and only had 1/2 day to see them :0 it was great! basically without documentation I can see 60-80 in a day and not be exhausted :) YAY! expanding capacity. God is good.
Went to day 1 of the prefuneral and we ended up being there till 11pm! so my treat dinner was kfc :) hehe! oh well :0 Tomorrow is the last day here. I am so blessed to have come. God is so good! so we just finished our first day of medical camps. it was not what we planned. We had all of 5 patients because someone dropped the ball and the community leaders didn't find out until late last night that there was a camp and so couldn't announce it to the people. So we ended up doing a training in first aid. One of my helpers was taking pictures and she is the best photographer I have had so far! she got all the shots i wanted! :) and more. And she already learned the talk so she can give it tomorrow!
probably 3 of our 5 patients will be volunteering tomorrow! There was a huge meal prepared. The other day I had wanted panfried tofu and guess what they made me :) a whole plate full and it was good! :) We came home and I got to talk to my host. So I was originally going to stay at a hotel but really didn't like any of them, there wasn't one that I could pay extra money for that was conveniently located. And then suddenly the pastor offered me a house stay! LAst time I was in the philippines I had stayed with a family and I totally loved it and this time too, I am loving it. There is no better way to get to know people than live with them. I found out today she has been lonely since her kids all grew up and her husband lives outside the country, so she was excited but scared, but I think we are having a great time! We ended up going to her dad's and prayed for her dad who has o2 dependent copd and we had a long conversation where he kept talking without being sob. His eyesight improved to the point where he could see me too :) he got so excited. He is 82. The sister in law had a stroke, so prayed for her and although she didn't start moving her body the pain in her body disappeared. The other 2 had easier to medically treat problems. Came home and the pastor made me a filipino dish. Tomorrow we start at 7am! AHH! but excited. So God is so good. I was three days over on my visa in cambodia. I woke up 2 weeks ago scared I might have overbooked my stay and lo and behold I had. A quick internet search revealed that i could probably pay 5-6 dollars a day over and I would be fine.- so 20 dollars and worse case scenario, an additional visa extension fee of 45 dollars more. So I made sure I had enough money cause apparently they don't give change and went early and they didn't charge me! didn't even ask! :) I had enough time to finish the testimony of tesfaye at the airport and although originally i was going to take a taxi from the airport, I got offered a ride by the pastor! So i am sooo blessed! :) So we did our first medical camp in the graveyard slum! It was great- best camp so far because finally we are praying with the patients! :) I am so excited. So since this was such a last minute camp, I wasn't sure who was coming. Bora and theary wanted to come and Rithy said he would come, but no one else said yes. Even the rheas and smith's backed out at the last minute, sooo.... that left a small group. Part of me was happy in case there wasn't enough to do, but as we gathered, I saw a lot of people on motorcycles, we had like 7-8 doctors/medical students! We got there and the place was locked! no patients to be found, but! God is so good! Someone let us in and as I set up they all went and saw the slum. They found out no one had even been told about it, so they invited them to come. When they got back, since the people had said they would come in a bit, I decided to take pics and was suprised to see people gambling on the graves and hanging out instead of coming to the camp, but was enjoying taking pics and interacting with the people. When I got back, there was one person there and soon one by one more and more came. I had to stop the clinic in the middle to have the first aid teaching done. Only I could pull it off, I literally had every person stop seeing their patient and send them to sit down to watch the presentation. Rithy uses his tablet to teach with the pics! How cool :) So yesterday I was offered another projector. So if they can plug it in, I could leave this behind for them :) God is good. So we started seeing patients. One thing I decided was that I wasn't going to worry about people's feelings, I was going to do what I thought was right. It's amazing how everything is right in the world when you are like that. It was super hot and lots of traffic but I was humming songs as sweat soaked my face as we rode there for an hour in the blazing heat on michael's motorcycle. No patients came initially and the place was locked and although I was thinking "repeat of saturday" but not worried. I really felt invested in teaching the medical students (even the ones that I feel aren't the greatest) and had a real love for them. When I got to theary I asked her to pray with her patient. I know she is passionate about God and so she was happy to do it. Then I asked the patient if she was better and she could feel God touching her knee and making it whole. We prayed for her eyes again and all the blurryness disappeared. After the next patient I asked if she would like to see patients or pray for them. I was very happy when she chose the latter! :) The students were confused as to why i was sending their seen patients to her, but later on I got to share what God was doing and theary shared examples of eyes and aches and pains that were healed with repeated prayer! I am so excited for the group and what God is doing! God is good! Please keep praying for us. The village chief wants us back every month - particularly because of women's health issues. So we will be teaching there and Michael found out that a lot of the girls from that place end up at ktv (prostitution) so hopefully we can make a positive impact. I wonder what God is doing! I am excited! So I came back to restart the center but no matter what I have done so far and how close things seem to get, something always goes wrong. I had a teacher all lined up, infact, waiting for me when I got here and last minute backed out. The last week we have been doing outreaches into the beer gardens and they all seemed so excited. Michael and I had a medical camp all set up for them, even went in the morning to buy more meds, I had my nails done and dressed up so I wouldn't look scrubby for these beautiful girls and NO one showed up to our medical camp for them! It was free. We had 3 volunteers show up to help but no one to actually see. Disappointing. Michael was actually more disappointed then me. So I have been wanting to go to the graveyard slum and suggested we just go and see if we can set up a camp for then. And lo and behold, we can! They said yes without hesitation and it will be in the government office there. Took a lot of pics because it wasn't raining. Kids were enjoying playing on the graves and it didn't bother them at all. It's so weird and sad and wonderful at the same time. I hope a lot come!
So there was a threat of rain all day long everywhere we went and of all the days to wear a dress, this was not a good one. I had to ride side saddle with an extra girl who wanted to see the graveslum (3 to a motorcycle) and michael took my helmet cause he couldn't find his. 40 minutes going, 40 coming back in the blazing heat but praise God I didn't get rained on or fall off :) Just made it home despite my stopping at gateway to do a medical consultation on the way home and meeting an old khmer friend who is going to do something similar to shakina in cambodia! YAY! Talked to michael and despite other options which involve more money and my okay with it, he is adamant on not wanting to give the girls any gifts for participating in the research we are doing. He's like me on everything else. I refuse to give more just cause they want it when we are already giving so much. In this case, I actually see a thank you gift as ok, since we are just taking and not giving, but he's not ok with even a 50 cent gift of fruit. :) We make such an awesome team :) always disagreeing with each other but never getting anything done without the other :) Gotto love God and how he does things. Can't wait to show you all the pics from our recent outings. :0 Please pray for us, we are trying to figure out the best way to reach these women. I hope the pics will give you a better idea of what a beer garden really is. |
