Deworming Program
The World Health Organization (WHO) states that parasitic worms are among the most common infections in developing countries. Worms impair the nutritional status of infected people by feeding on host tissues and thus leading to a deficiency in iron (anemia), protein and other nutrients. The nutritional impact can have a significant impact on growth and development. The WHO recommends periodic drug treatment aka deworming of all children living in endemic areas.
Therefore we have started a deworming program. We have a team that travels throughout Cambodia providing education on hygiene and sanitation and deworms to all the students it educates. We are particularly targeting elementary schools in the villages of Cambodia. We started our program in 11/2012 and have already dewormed over 10,000 students.
