Medical Education and Training
There is an old saying that you can give a man a fish and feed him for a day or you can teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Many times we can be so focussed on the immediate need that in the process of helping we forget to empower those we are helping to have a healthy and prosperous life without our help. In order to avoid making this mistake, we are not only doing free medical clinics, we are also training a wide variety of people in basic medical care and issues. We are using a four pronged approach to reach most of the cambodian society and hope to truly make a long term impact in this nation and eventually the nations beyond.
Training Nonprofits
There are many wonderful nonprofits doing valuable work in Cambodia. One of their biggest gaps in care is medical care. Therefore we are partnering with the various nonprofits in cambodia to provide free medical training in first aid, women's health and reproduction and basic medical care. The curriculum and the training has been a hugely appreciated.
Training Adults in the Community
Every medical camp we do, we precede with basic medical training. This allows the people to not only receive care, but in the future help prevent the disease and/or treat it themselves. We also train the adults in the community of the schools we train at so both adults and children are hearing the same message and hopefully together they will bring change in their community.
Training in the Local Schools
Children are sponges for information. We have found that their retention is much better than the adults in the community. We lauched our student education program in Oct of 2012 and are continuing to expand the number of schools we reach. Children are often the catalyst for change in homes and so by reaching them we are hoping to change entire communities in the future.
Training Medical Students
Medical Students are the future of medicine in Cambodia. Save Each One has been training these students in all necessary aspects of medical care ranging from the nuts and bolts about disease to a good bed side manner. The work continues to expand and grow with them and we are looking for doctors to oversee and teach them as they reach out and help their own people.
