So I came back to restart the center but no matter what I have done so far and how close things seem to get, something always goes wrong. I had a teacher all lined up, infact, waiting for me when I got here and last minute backed out. The last week we have been doing outreaches into the beer gardens and they all seemed so excited. Michael and I had a medical camp all set up for them, even went in the morning to buy more meds, I had my nails done and dressed up so I wouldn't look scrubby for these beautiful girls and NO one showed up to our medical camp for them! It was free. We had 3 volunteers show up to help but no one to actually see. Disappointing. Michael was actually more disappointed then me. So I have been wanting to go to the graveyard slum and suggested we just go and see if we can set up a camp for then. And lo and behold, we can! They said yes without hesitation and it will be in the government office there. Took a lot of pics because it wasn't raining. Kids were enjoying playing on the graves and it didn't bother them at all. It's so weird and sad and wonderful at the same time. I hope a lot come!
So there was a threat of rain all day long everywhere we went and of all the days to wear a dress, this was not a good one. I had to ride side saddle with an extra girl who wanted to see the graveslum (3 to a motorcycle) and michael took my helmet cause he couldn't find his. 40 minutes going, 40 coming back in the blazing heat but praise God I didn't get rained on or fall off :) Just made it home despite my stopping at gateway to do a medical consultation on the way home and meeting an old khmer friend who is going to do something similar to shakina in cambodia! YAY!
Talked to michael and despite other options which involve more money and my okay with it, he is adamant on not wanting to give the girls any gifts for participating in the research we are doing. He's like me on everything else. I refuse to give more just cause they want it when we are already giving so much. In this case, I actually see a thank you gift as ok, since we are just taking and not giving, but he's not ok with even a 50 cent gift of fruit. :) We make such an awesome team :) always disagreeing with each other but never getting anything done without the other :) Gotto love God and how he does things. Can't wait to show you all the pics from our recent outings. :0
