Grave yard slum medical camp!

5/5/2015

So we did our first medical camp in the graveyard slum! It was great- best camp so far because finally we are praying with the patients! :) I am so excited. So since this was such a last minute camp, I wasn't sure who was coming.  Bora and theary wanted to come and Rithy said he would come, but no one else said yes.  Even the rheas and smith's backed out at the last minute, sooo.... that left a small group. Part of me was happy in case there wasn't enough to do, but as we gathered, I saw a lot of people on motorcycles, we had like 7-8 doctors/medical students! We got there and the place was locked! no patients to be found, but! God is so good! Someone let us in and as I set up they all went and saw the slum. They found out no one had even been told about it, so they invited them to come.  When they got back, since the people had said they would come in a bit, I decided to take pics and was suprised to see people gambling on the graves and hanging out instead of coming to the camp, but was enjoying taking pics and interacting with the people. When I got back, there was one person there and soon one by one more and more came.  I had to stop the clinic in the middle to have the first aid teaching done. Only I could pull it off, I literally had every person stop seeing their patient and send them to sit down to watch the presentation.  Rithy uses his tablet to teach with the pics! How cool :) So yesterday I was offered another projector.  So if they can plug it in, I could leave this behind for them :) God is good.
So we started seeing patients.  One thing I decided was that I wasn't going to worry about people's feelings, I was going to do what I thought was right. It's amazing how everything is right in the world when you are like that.  It was super hot and lots of traffic but I was humming songs as sweat soaked my face as we rode there for an hour in the blazing heat on michael's motorcycle.  No patients came initially and the place was locked and although I was thinking "repeat of saturday" but not worried.  I really felt invested in teaching the medical students (even the ones that I feel aren't the greatest) and had a real love for them.  When I got to theary I asked her to pray with her patient.  I know she is passionate about God and so she was happy to do it.  Then I asked the patient if she was better and she could feel God touching her knee and making it whole.  We prayed for her eyes again and all the blurryness disappeared.  After the next patient I asked if she would like to see patients or pray for them.  I was very happy when she chose the latter! :)  The students were confused as to why i was sending their seen patients to her, but later on I got to share what God was doing and theary shared examples of eyes and aches and pains that were healed with repeated prayer!
I am so excited for the group and what God is doing! God is good!  Please keep praying for us.
The village chief wants us back every month - particularly because of women's health issues. So we will be teaching there and Michael found out that a lot of the girls from that place end up at ktv (prostitution) so hopefully we can make a positive impact. I wonder what God is doing! I am excited!
